No matter how much or how well we plan, life has a way of throwing the unexpected at us. It might be a business deal that fell through, a sudden sickness or the loss of a dear one. As human beings, we are bound to feel hopeless in the face of adversity but how we cope and deal with it can make all the difference. What steps can we take to make things easier.

This too shall pass

It is important to understand that tough times do not last forever. As bad as things may seem at the moment, it would surely get better.

Remember the good times and count your blessings.

Good times are what balances the hard times out. It makes it easier to bear. Think about happy times. All the wins, victories and good memories. This will surely put a smile on your face.

Look for the lesson

Every experience in life is there to teach us a lesson.  It is key to find and understand it for our personal growth . Lessons learnt can help us cope each time we come across difficult times.

Do not play the blame game

It is very easy to blame others when things go wrong. We need to take responsibility for our part in it.

Stay calm

It is very easy to over-react in the face of the unexpected. This is a time to remain calm. Over-reacting might make the situation worse and a level head is needed for problem solving.

Turn a negative into a positive

Find a positive in your experience. Turn your lemons into lemonade. It might be difficult as you are going through the emotions. Many inventions and businesses have been born out of the unexpected .

Ride the waves

First thing people do (after freaking out , obviously) is to distract themselves.  It is vital that we stay in the moment and let the feeling pass. This helps to come to terms with what ever happened and be able to move forward.
